Genetic aspects of polymorphic C-bands in the chromosomes of the black rat (Rattus rattus tanezumi) in Japan.

چکیده
Involving pericentric inversion, Robertsonian fusion and B-chromosomes , the black rat, Rattus rattus, is highly polymorphic. The polymorphism is also remarka ble by a variation of heterochromatic C-bands. R. rattus tanezumi, which is one of several subspecies of the black rats and distributes through Japan, is outstanding by polymorphism for the presence or absence of the C-bands (Yosida and Sagai 1975). Genetic analysis of the C-band polymorphism in man has been carried out by Craig-Holmes et al. (1973, 1975), Gimelli et al. (1976), Carnevale et al. (1976), Nakagome et al. (1977) and Hoehn et al. (1977). New variants of the bands have been known to occur in their offspring by Craig-Holmes et al., Gimelli et al . and Nakagome et al., while consistent inheritance of such bands has been reported by some others. In the mouse Forejt (1973) and Dev et al. (1975) indicated that the characteristic bands were regularly inherited in the offspring. The present article deals with a cytogenetic investigation of C-band poly morphism in the Japanese black rat, with special concern to the genetic analysis of the polymorphic C-bands.

Invasion facilitates hybridization with introgression in the Rattus rattus species complex.
Biological invasions result in novel species interactions, which can have significant evolutionary impacts on both native and invading taxa. One evolutionary concern with invasions is hybridization among lineages that were previously isolated, but make secondary contact in their invaded range(s). Black rats, consisting of several morphologically very similar but genetically distinct taxa that c...
متن کاملGenetic characterization of Okinawan black rats showing coat color polymorphisms of white spotting and melanism.
We examined pelage color variation in wild populations of black rats (the Rattus rattus species complex) in the Yambaru forest area, northern Okinawa Island, Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan. Our field study revealed that 8.7% (38/438) and 0.2% (4/2500) of rats exhibited two types of coat color: white spotting and melanism, respectively. Using 34 representative animals, the phylogeography of the popul...

During February 2004 and September 2005, Xenopsylla cheopis were collected from small mammal hosts during rodent-bone disease surveys in Jakarta and Bandung, Indonesia. During 4 trap nights in Jakarta, 4 rodent species (Rattus exulans, Rattus norvegicus, Rattus tanezumi and Mus musculus) and one shrew species (Suncus murinus) were collected. Rattus tanezumi had the highest X. cheopis load (128 ...

OBJECTIVE To identify and type three leptospires isolated from Rattus tanezumi in Guizhou Province by using three molecular techniques (PFGE, MLVA, and MLST), reveal the molecular characteristic of causative agents of local leptospirosis and evaluate these three molecular methods based on their detection resolution and efficiency. METHODS Three Leptospira strains were isolated from the kidney...
متن کاملWhole-Genome Sequencing Reveals Genetic Variation in the Asian House Rat
Whole-genome sequencing of wild-derived rat species can provide novel genomic resources, which may help decipher the genetics underlying complex phenotypes. As a notorious pest, reservoir of human pathogens, and colonizer, the Asian house rat, Rattus tanezumi, is successfully adapted to its habitat. However, little is known regarding genetic variation in this species. In this study, we identifi...
